The Hunter
Silently, he crept upon his prey. Senses attuned to any sounds of danger, he moved ever closer. Suddenly, a car door slammed, breaking the spell. He shook his head in disgust at thought of the missed opportunity.
He watched while the couple embraced, before turning back to the night. He would return. His connection with the woman marked her for death. Her scent still strong in his nostrils, he set out for a substitute victim for the night. It wouldn’t be the same, wouldn’t satisfy him on an elemental level, but would quench his hunger for a while.
He paused when a sound reached him. Turning east, he made his way, the sounds of his next victim music to his ears.
