Night Stalker Susan-Going Home

Published by sunnflr at 1:32 pm under flash fiction Edit This

Andrew and Susan rode a bus from New York to Boston. Susan was shaking uncontrollably by the time they arrived at their destination. Sitting next to all the people on the bus and not taking any was making her physically sick.

Andrew helped her down the bus steps, and then led her to a bench. She gratefully sank onto the hard seat. Andrew sat beside her and drew her into his arms. Susan curled into him, holding on. Resting her head on his chest, she closed her eyes and slept.

After letting her sleep a few hours, Andrew shook her awake. “Susan,” he implored. “We have to go now. It’s almost morning.”

Susan stretched and looked around. “I’m sorry, Andrew,” she said, lowering her head.

“Nothing to be sorry for,” he replied. “It gets easier being around Outsiders without feasting after a while.”

“Outsiders?” Susan inquired.

“That’s what we call regular people,” Andrew offered with a shrug.

“I see,” Susan said. “Makes sense,” she continued after a few minutes. “And I’m sure glad it gets easier, cause that was hell.”

Andrew smiled. “You have to remember you’ve only been a Stalker for a short time, Susan.” He then shook his head, “Although you’ve packed more into a few days than some Stalkers accomplish in a month.”

“Stalkers and not Vampires?” Susan asked.

“Yeah, Vampire sounds too old fashioned,” he offered and laughed.

He stood and held his hand out. “Now we have to find some place to spend the day,” he said. “Any ideas?”

“Yeah, we can go to one of the warehouses,” she replied, taking his hand and leading him off.
